The Art Abandonment Project: Get Started Creating Art and Leaving It for Random Recipients

Author(s): Michael de Meng

All artists use art as an expression and as humans we all have an intense need to be able to express ourselves to others. For some artists, having a justified opportunity to share what they create proves to be challenging if they are not teaching, publishing or selling their art. Art abandonment is so appealing because it fills this need easily in a fun and fulfilling way. The idea is to make something and leave it for a lucky unsuspecting person to find (along with a note explaining the act)-be it on a shelf at the library, a park bench, a seat at the airport, a table at a coffee shop or anywhere a stranger might stumble upon it. Artists post locations and photos of their abandoned goodies to the Facebook page, and finders can let everyone know that they are the lucky finder if so inclined (contact info for the artist included if the artist chooses). The book will explain the process and encourage the reader to begin doing some abandoning of their own. Information about how the author began the process will be included as well as information about the Facebook group.
Following the basics, Michael will offer fun ideas for monthly challenges, followed by numerous stories (and plenty of photos) from fellow Abandoneers, Finally, for those artists who have trouble parting with their art, Michael will offer encouragement by explaining the value of sharing with others and connecting as a creative community.
